No. 5 Mississippi State Sweeps South Alabama 7-0

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The No. 5 Mississippi State men’s tennis team delivered a dominant performance Tuesday, sweeping South Alabama 7-0 at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

The Bulldogs took control early, winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Mario Martinez Serrano and Michal Novansky defeated Juan Accossatto and Jules Caby 6-3, while Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes and Bryan Hernandez Cortes secured a 6-2 win on court three. Play was halted on court one with Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez leading 5-3.

In singles action, Mississippi State showcased its depth, winning all six courts. Mario Martinez Serrano, ranked 33rd, was first off the court, defeating Jules Caby 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. Raphael Vaksmann added a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4, and Bryan Hernandez Cortes, ranked 55th, earned a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win at No. 5.

The Bulldogs gained momentum early, securing straight-set wins on courts three and four. Hernandez Cortes finished the match with a three-set victory on court one, sealing the sweep. The match lasted 2 hours and 50 minutes.

With the win, Mississippi State moved to 10-2 overall, earning their first 7-0 sweep of the season. South Alabama fell to 2-5.

The Bulldogs will face No. 18 Auburn at 12 p.m. CT on March 1.
