No. 4 Oklahoma edges Ole Miss 5-2 in softball finale

Oxford, Mississippi – The Ole Miss softball team fought hard but ultimately fell 5-2 to No. 4 Oklahoma on Monday evening at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium, according to the university’s athletics department.

The Rebels (20-14, 0-9 SEC) took an early lead and were ahead until the sixth inning. Oklahoma (32-2, 6-0 SEC) took control after a grand slam by Isabela Emerling broke a 2-2 tie. The game marked a close contest that featured strong pitching from Ole Miss senior Kyra Aycock, who pitched a complete game with a season-high seven strikeouts, despite the loss.

Aycock set the tone from the start, striking out two in the first inning and working around an error to record a third strikeout. The Rebels scored twice in the second inning, with Madi George doubling and Laylonna Applin reaching on an error, allowing Alexa Rosales to score. Ryan Starr then singled to put runners at first and third, and Taylor Malvin drove in a run with a clutch single, though the trail runner was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Oklahoma responded with a solo home run in the third inning to cut the lead to 2-1. The Sooners then loaded the bases in the sixth, prompting Emerling to deliver a pinch-hit grand slam to give Oklahoma a 5-2 lead. Despite a rally in the bottom of the inning with singles by Cassie Reasner and Taylor Roman, and a Sooner error, Oklahoma reliever Audrey Lowry struck out two batters to end the threat and secure the win.

The Rebels are scheduled to host UAB on Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT at Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus. Fans are encouraged to join Rebel Rewards, the university’s loyalty program, for exclusive prizes and experiences. For more information, visit OleMissSports.com or follow the team on social media.
