STARKVILLE — No. 4 Mississippi State defeated Grambling State 12-0 on Tuesday night at Dudy Noble Field, extending its home winning streak to 20 games dating back to last season, according to school officials.
The Bulldogs (25-4) dominated from the start, scoring three runs in the first inning after loading the bases. Ryder Woodson doubled to left, driving in two runs, and a balk allowed another run to score, giving MSU an early 3-0 lead.
Mississippi State’s pitching staff combined for a two-hit shutout, using six pitchers to strike out 10 batters. Jack Bauer earned the win in relief, striking out three over 1 1/3 innings. Starter Chris Billingsley threw two hitless innings to set the tone.
The Bulldogs continued to pressure Grambling (9-18) with multiple scoring opportunities. In the second inning, a throwing error allowed Kevin Milewski to score, and Ace Reese’s groundout extended the lead to 5-0. The team added three more runs in the third and fifth innings, including a solo home run by Andrew Raymond and a double by Gehrig Frei.
MSU’s offense was led by Woodson, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Frei finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Raymond’s pinch-hit homer provided a spark off the bench. The game was called in the seventh inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.
