No. 4 Mississippi State Dominates Alcorn 19-0 in Midweek Baseball Game
STARKVILLE, Miss. — No. 4 Mississippi State scored 13 runs in the first three innings and defeated Alcorn 19-0 Wednesday night at Dudy Noble Field.
Vytas Valincius opened the scoring for the Bulldogs with a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Bryce Chance to score from third. Blake Bevis then hit his first home run of the season — a three-run shot inside the left-field foul pole — to extend Mississippi State’s lead to 4-0.
The Bulldogs added five runs in the second inning, highlighted by Bevis’s two-run single past the third baseman. Mississippi State led 7-0 after two innings. In the third, Andrew Raymond singled to right field, driving in Bevis and Drew Wyers, pushing the lead to 11-0.
Another run scored in the fifth on a Peter Mershon sacrifice fly, which scored Valincius. Mississippi State finished the scoring with five runs in the sixth inning. Alcorn got its only hit of the night in the first inning from Jaylin Bennett but was shut out afterward.
Bulldogs reliever Maddox Miller pitched one scoreless inning, striking out three batters. Starter Tyler Pitzer worked two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three, but did not factor into the decision. The loss went to Alcorn starter Caden Wade, who pitched one inning and allowed four runs on three hits and two walks.
Alcorn’s Jaylin Bennett recorded the team’s only hit. Myles Dews pitched 1.1 innings of relief without allowing a hit or walk. Centerfielder Rayfield Adams III stole his second base of the season and made five putouts from his position in the outfield. The Braves used seven pitchers in the game.
This marked the first shutout against Alcorn since April 27, 2025, against Jackson State in Lorman.
Alcorn returns to action Friday, Feb. 20, traveling to Houston Christian for a three-game series with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. in Houston, Texas.
