No. 4 Mississippi State beats Troy 13-7 in baseball

Mississippi State remained undefeated with a 13-7 victory over Troy at Dudy Noble Field on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs (4-0) scored four runs in the first inning and used a strong offensive performance to secure the win, while the Trojans (1-3) struggled to keep pace.

The Bulldogs set the tone early, with James Nunnallee singling to start the bottom of the first. He later scored on Aidan Teel’s RBI double. Vytas Valincius followed with a two-run single, and Gehrig Frei added an RBI triple as State sent nine batters to the plate in the inning. MSU continued to build its lead in the second inning, with Ryder Woodson doubling home a run and Ace Reese hitting a two-run homer to make it 7-0.

Chone James hit his first career home run in the fifth, a two-run shot that extended the lead to 9-1. The Bulldogs added four more runs in the sixth, including an RBI by Jacob Parker in his college debut. Reese finished 5-for-5 with a triple shy of the cycle and three RBIs. Valincius went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, and James and Blake Bevis each contributed two hits.

Duke Stone started for MSU, allowing one run on one hit in four innings with six strikeouts. William Kirk (1-0) earned the win in relief, striking out three over two innings. The Bulldogs used six pitchers overall. Troy had 10 hits and committed two errors in the game.

Mississippi State continues its homestand Wednesday with a matchup against Alcorn State at 4 p.m., which will be streamed on SEC Network+.
