No. 4 Jones College Sweeps Doubleheader at Holmes
GOODMAN, Miss. — No. 4 Jones College swept a doubleheader at Holmes on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats used strong hitting and efficient pitching to win both games, improving their overall record to 25-8 and their conference mark to 8-2, according to school officials.
In the first game, Jones defeated Holmes 9-4. Chase Russell earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing three runs. Trevor Hodges closed the game with a three-inning save, striking out six and allowing one unearned run. Jones totaled 12 hits, led by Dylan Champagne’s three-hit performance. Gage Reeves, Warren Hutchinson, and Brayden Quick each had multi-hit games.
Jones took control early with a five-run third inning that included a bases-loaded walk by Brayson Graham and a three-run double by Gage Reeves. Warren Hutchinson added an RBI-double in the same inning. Holmes scored twice in the second and added runs in the fifth and seventh but could not overcome the Bobcats’ lead. Champagne contributed an RBI-single in the eighth to cap the scoring.
Jones’s pitchers kept Holmes at bay, with Russell allowing three runs and inducing 12 groundouts. Hodges’s three-inning save was his fourth of the season. Holmes finished with nine hits but stranded 12 runners in the game.
The Bobcats are set to face No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday in Perkinston.
