No. 24 Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Dominates Tennessee 4-0
OXFORD, Miss. — The University of Mississippi’s men’s tennis team, ranked No. 24, posted a decisive 4-0 victory over No. 48 Tennessee on Saturday at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
The Rebels (17-7, 5-7 SEC) secured the win by winning the doubles point early. Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin claimed a 6-0 victory over Woodson McMillin and Ethan Muza, while Stefano D’Agostino and Pietro Pampanin followed with a 6-3 win over Jose Garcia and Shion Itusaki.
In singles, Vlado Jankanj defeated Itusaki in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. D’Agostino added another point for Ole Miss with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Garcia. The match was sealed when Martin overcame Piotr Siekanowicz, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
Three singles matches were still underway when the match was called. Chambonniere and Moreno were on the brink of finishing their matches, while Noah Schlagenhauf and Muza were close to ending theirs. Pampanin’s match was still in progress with a 0-3 deficit in the third set.
The Rebels are scheduled to host Auburn next Friday at 3 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center.
Ole Miss improved to 17-7 overall with the victory, while Tennessee dropped to 10-16.
