No. 21 Mississippi College Baseball Sweeps UIndy in Doubleheader

CLINTON, Miss. — No. 21 Mississippi College baseball finished its four-game series against No. 30 Indianapolis with a doubleheader sweep Sunday. The Choctaws won 3-2 in the first game and 6-5 in the second, according to school officials.

MC improved to 3-1 on the season. Offense was contributed by Alex Johnson, Creek Robertson, and Cade Gadman. Johnson recorded four hits in seven at-bats with an RBI. Robertson and Gadman each went 3-for-7, with Gadman driving in three runs and Robertson adding an RBI in the first game, officials said.

Head coach Jeremy Haworth praised his team’s resilience. “I am super proud of our guys this weekend,” he said. “It’s always good to start off the weekend with three wins. I was really impressed with our pitching out of the bullpen. We’re figuring out our offensive rhythm, and I like how we fought through adversity after not playing yesterday.”

In the first game, the Choctaws won on a walk-off walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. Will Langston scored Devon Crown, who singled to start the inning. MC trailed twice but refused to fall. Gadman tied the game at 1-1 in the second with a single, scoring Tyrus Washington. UIndy regained the lead in the fifth, but MC responded with a single from Gadman to score Nick Slonaker, setting up the dramatic finish.

Starting pitcher Kamryn Carlisle earned his first victory, allowing one run on two hits over three innings in relief. Taylor Ballard started and pitched four innings, striking out three, walking two, and allowing one run on one hit, officials said.

In the series finale, MC held off a late rally from UIndy. The Greyhounds left two runners stranded in the top of the seventh with the tying run at third. Blake Gollott earned his first save of the season, striking out the final two batters. MC tied the game in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth, with Gadman driving in his third RBI and later scoring on a throwing error.

UIndy pulled within a run in the sixth, but Johnson responded with a two-run homer over the left field wall. It was his second home run of the weekend. Dylan Cope earned the win in relief, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing one run on four hits. Gollott finished the game in the save role. Tyler Swann started and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on two hits in his MC debut.

Mississippi College returns to action Feb. 6 in Dahlonega, Georgia, against No. 29 North Georgia. The three-game series begins at 1 p.m. central time, officials said.
