No. 21 Mississippi College Baseball Splits Season-Open Doubleheader
CLINTON, Miss. — No. 21 Mississippi College baseball split a doubleheader with Indianapolis on Friday at Frierson Field inside Dickins-Scoper Stadium, opening the 2026 season.
The Choctaws (1-1) rallied in the first game to win 4-3, with Creek Robertson leading the offense by going 3-for-4, driving in a run, and scoring three times. Robertson’s game-winning hit was a solo home run in the ninth inning. Alex Johnson secured the victory by drawing a two-out, bases-loaded walk after Robertson singled and the team was hit by two pitches in the same at-bat.
Indianapolis struck first, scoring in the third inning. Mississippi College responded with a two-RBI double from Tyler Sanderson in the bottom half, giving the team a 2-1 lead. Robertson added a solo home run in the fourth, pushing the lead to 3-1. The Greyhounds tied the game in the sixth with RBI walks from Brayton Bowen and Bret Perry, setting up a dramatic finish.
Caleb Peterson pitched well for the Choctaws, recording a WHIP of 1.20. Coby Gollott (1-0) earned the win after four relief innings, allowing only two hits and striking out five. Indianapolis pitcher Drake Downing (0-1) took the loss after pitching two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts.
In the second game, Indianapolis’s Gavin Smith pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out two and walking two. The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the first inning with Austin Pokley’s double and added three more runs in the fourth to win 4-0. Mississippi College’s offense managed only three hits, with Robertson, Bryce Speakman, and Carter Wells contributing.
Connor Pittman (0-1) started for the Choctaws, allowing four runs over four innings with four strikeouts. Peyton Charles pitched two and two-thirds innings of relief, recording three strikeouts. Brady Ray finished the game with one batter faced. The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Sunday at 11 a.m.
