No. 21 Florida Edges Ole Miss Baseball 2-0 in Series Opener

Gainesville, Fla. — Ole Miss baseball fell to No. 21 Florida 2-0 Friday night in the opening game of their SEC series. The game was delayed just over two hours due to lightning in the area before being played at Condron Ballpark.

Hunter Elliott pitched four innings for Ole Miss, striking out nine Gators, his second-highest total this season. Despite his strong performance, he was charged with both runs in the game. Florida scored twice in the third inning, with Cade Kurland driving in a run with a single. Elliott then walked two batters, loading the bases with two outs, before Kurland scored on a fielder’s choice.

The Rebels managed six hits in the game, with Judd Utermark and Hayden Federico each collecting two. Ole Miss had runners on base in five of the nine innings but could not capitalize. The team’s final chance came in the ninth with runners on the corners, but a strikeout by Austin Fawley ended the game.

The series will be decided in a rubber match Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. ET) on SEC Network. The game will be held at Condron Ballpark in Gainesville, Florida.
