No. 14 Ole Miss Softball Splits Doubleheader at Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. — The Ole Miss softball team, ranked 14th nationally, opened its season with a doubleheader against Cal State Fullerton at Anderson Family Field on Thursday night. The Rebels lost the first game 5-4 but bounced back to win the second game 11-9, led by several standout performances from newcomers, according to team sources.

In the opener, Ole Miss jumped ahead early, with Cassie Reasner driving in two runs in her debut. The Titans responded with a four-run inning to secure the win, despite a strong effort from freshman pitcher Emilee Boyer, who struck out seven in her Rebel debut. The Rebels’ offense rallied late, but fell just short, leaving them at 1-1 on the season.

In the nightcap, Ole Miss seized an early lead but faced a fierce challenge from Cal State Fullerton. The Rebels’ offense erupted in the fifth and sixth innings, with back-to-back home runs from Mackenzie Pickens and Kennedy Bunker sealing the victory. Reasner also contributed a home run, her first as a Rebel, fueling the comeback.

Ole Miss will continue its season Friday with games against CSUN and Boise State as part of the Easton Classic. The team’s roster features several newcomers who made immediate impacts, according to coach Jamie Trachsel. Fans are encouraged to follow the team on social media and participate in the Rebel Rewards loyalty program for chances to win prizes.
