No. 11 Trevecca Nazarene shuts out Mississippi College in GSC opener
Trevecca Nazarene’s baseball team defeated Mississippi College 5-0 Friday at Jackson Field in Nashville, marking the Trojans’ 22nd win of the season and their 14th in Gulf South Conference play. The Trojans’s pitchers combined for a shutout, holding the Choctaws to just two hits and striking out 12 batters, according to game summaries.
It was the first time Mississippi College was shut out since Jan. 30 and the first conference blanking since March 15, 2025, according to the school. Cade Gadman and Will Langston each had one single for the Choctaws, who also received a walk from Langston. Caleb Peterson (3-3) took the loss, striking out eight but allowing four runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. Relief pitchers Taylor Ballard and Connor Pittman finished the game.
The game was tied 0-0 through the first three innings, with Mississippi College unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities. The Trojans broke through in the bottom of the fourth, fueled by singles from Cade Martin and Caleb Webster. A sacrifice bunt moved runners into scoring position, and Cade Moore delivered a single, along with an error, to score both runners and give Trevecca Nazarene a 2-0 lead.
The Trojans added to their lead in the fifth inning with home runs from Landon Rogers and Cade Martin. Rogers and Martin each recorded two hits in the game. In the eighth inning, Rogers singled to drive in a run, extending the lead to 5-0. Despite a late rally by Mississippi College, including a single and stolen base by Gadman, the Choctaws could not score.
Justin Lee earned the victory in relief for Trevecca Nazarene, striking out four over four innings. Jonah Smithson started and struck out six in four innings, allowing just one hit. Ryan Sweeney finished the game with two strikeouts in the ninth. The two teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at noon.
