Neely Cooper throws no-hitter as Blue Mountain Christian sweeps Thomas
Thomasville, Georgia — The Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers softball team won both games of a Saturday doubleheader against the Thomas Nighthawks in Thomasville. The day featured a no-hit performance from Neely Cooper in game two and a historic run scored by Anna Harrison.
In the first game, the Toppers defeated Thomas 12-3. They collected 17 hits and scored in five innings. Kelsey Camp started the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning. Aspen Teague’s three-run triple in the second helped create separation, and Rachel Rommel, Maryn Macri, Lakyn Nichols, Teague, and Camp added RBIs. Teague led with three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Camp also had three hits and two RBIs, while Macri added two hits and two RBIs. Harrison scored three runs, setting a program record for most runs in a season. Mikaylah Fuqua and Bre Ramsey contributed offensively, and Madison Montgomery earned the win, allowing three runs over five innings.
The momentum carried into the second game, where Cooper threw a five-inning no-hitter in an 8-0 run-rule victory. Cooper struck out five, walked one, and induced 10 groundouts, dominating throughout. Blue Mountain Christian jumped ahead early with five runs in the first inning. Anna Harrison scored her 41st run of the season, setting a new single-season program record. Fuqua led with two hits and two runs scored, while Teague added two hits and an RBI. Camp and Neely Barrier also contributed runs batted in during the game.
With the sweep, Blue Mountain Christian continues its SSAC conference play, aiming to build on its strong performance. The team now looks ahead to upcoming matchups in the season.
