Mobile rallies in ninth, edges Blue Mountain Christian in series finale

Mobile, Ala. — The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers fought back from an early deficit and took a brief lead but lost 6-5 to Mobile on Saturday in the final game of their Southern States Athletic Conference series.

Mobile scored first with a run in the third inning and added two more in the fifth to build a 3-0 lead. The Toppers responded in the sixth, with Jake Meilstrup delivering a two-RBI single to score Yaidel Perez and Ethan Hirons, cutting the deficit to one.

Blue Mountain Christian took the lead in the seventh with a three-run inning. Perez singled to drive in Cody Presley and Ross Polizzi, giving the Toppers a 4-3 advantage. Trace Roy followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-3. Mobile answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh and tied the game in the eighth.

In the ninth, Mobile capitalized on a defensive miscue to score the winning run in walk-off fashion. The Toppers finished with 12 hits, led by Roy, who went 4-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. Meilstrup was 1-for-5 with two RBIs, and Perez went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Gavin Foley added two hits, while Polizzi, Presley, Bryant, and Reise Thomas each recorded one hit.

On the mound, Benji Webb pitched 6.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits with four strikeouts. Christian Manness allowed one run in relief, and Morris took the loss after pitching the final inning. Despite the setback, Blue Mountain Christian showed resilience after falling behind early and was in position to win late.

The Toppers will look to regroup as they continue conference play in upcoming games.
