Mississippi Valley State Women Dominate Prairie View A&M in Blowout

The Mississippi Valley State University women’s basketball team defeated Prairie View A&M 67-45 Thursday night at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex in Itta Bena, Mississippi. The Devilettes earned their second straight win and improved to 5-19 overall and 4-9 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

Prairie View A&M fell to 2-23 overall and remained winless in conference at 0-14. The Panthers lead the all-time series 23-8 since the 2010-11 season, but Mississippi Valley State snapped a recent losing streak with the victory.

Top performers for the Devilettes included Kylah McCullers, who set career-highs with five assists and three three-pointers, finishing with nine points. Ariel Jefferson contributed her fourth double-double of the season, tallying 13 rebounds and 13 points in 23 minutes. Jaeda Murphy added eight points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Janiya Jones had seven rebounds and 11 points.

Reserve Sydnei Marshall matched Jefferson with 13 points, making five of seven field goal attempts. Sydney Thompson scored 10 points in 10 minutes, and Caiside Snapp added her first points of the season with a pair of baskets.

Mississippi Valley State will honor its three seniors—Desiree Smith, Janiya Jones, and Caiside Snapp—and two graduate students, Nairobi Lewis and Ariel Jefferson, before Saturday’s 3 p.m. game against Texas Southern. The team encourages fans to follow their social media accounts for updates.
