Mississippi Valley State Softball Falls to Alabama A&M, 13-6

ITTA BENA, Miss. — Mississippi Valley State University’s softball team lost to Alabama A&M 13-6 on Saturday at the MVSU Softball Field. The Bulldogs improved to 14-16 overall and 1-5 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, while the Delta Devils fell to 1-17 and 0-7 in league play.

Two-thirds of Mississippi Valley State’s hits came from Taniya Partee and Michelle Diaz, who each went 3-for-4. Partee scored twice and drove in two runs, while Diaz also scored once and recorded an RBI. Diaz also stole a base. Sheridan Kynard drew two walks and scored both times, including once on a steal. Ashtyn Clark contributed an RBI single and struck out five batters in four innings as a pitcher.

Offensively, Kelsey Kaluna-Thomas hit a double, and Madison Wesley had a hit and a walk. The team faces Alabama A&M again in a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., as Coach Riddick-Waters’ team aims to secure a win against the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs jumped to an early lead in the first inning with a six-run rally, highlighted by multiple RBI hits. Mississippi Valley State responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, including a double by Partee and a two-RBI single by Clark. The Bulldogs extended their lead with additional runs in the third and sixth innings, while the Delta Devils added three runs in the sixth, including a single by Partee and an RBI triple from Diaz.

Alabama A&M’s Josefina Lacalle and Grace Cruthis contributed offensively, with Lacalle driving in two runs in the first inning and Cruthis adding an inside-the-park home run in the seventh. The game marked the 115th meeting between the two programs, with Alabama A&M holding a slight edge in series history.
