Mississippi Valley State Softball Drops Both Games to Bethune-Cookman
ITTA BENA, Miss. — The Mississippi Valley State University softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader against Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday. The Wildcats won Game 1 by a score of 13-2 and Game 2 by 5-2 at MVSU Softball Field.
Mississippi Valley State, which now holds a 1-26 record overall and an 0-14 mark in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, struggled to contain Bethune-Cookman’s offense. The Wildcats improved their series lead to 20-3 overall, with the last victory over the Delta Devils coming on April 10, 2023.
In Game 1, Michelle Diaz led the Delta Devils with two hits in three at-bats, driving in a run and scoring once. Sheridan Kynard went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and an RBI, while Ashtyn Clark tripled and scored. Devyn Dotson also scored after drawing a walk. Other contributors included Jamiyah Gary and Hailey Akers.
Diaz was the only player from Mississippi Valley State to record multiple hits in Game 2, adding two singles and an RBI. Madison Bruce pitched a complete game, allowing four earned runs and striking out one without issuing a walk. Clark reached via a walk for the second straight game, scoring a run. Taniya Partee, Madison Wesley, and Akers each added singles in the loss.
The team will attempt to salvage the series during Thursday’s game at 11 a.m., with head coach Taliyah Riddick-Waters aiming for a win to send Bethune-Cookman back to Florida with a series loss.
