Mississippi Valley State Names Demetrius Howse as Senior Associate Athletic Director
Mississippi Valley State University announced the hiring of Demetrius Howse as senior associate athletic director for external operations. In this position, Howse will manage external functions such as strategic communications, marketing, branding, media relations, and revenue-generating initiatives for the Delta Devils athletics department.
Howse returns to Mississippi Valley State after working in various communications leadership roles across Division I athletics. Most recently, he served as associate athletic director for strategic communications at Alcorn State University, where he directed communications and marketing for the Braves athletics department. He was also the primary media contact for several sports, including football, women’s basketball, softball, and tennis.
The Texas native previously worked as assistant director of communications at the Western Athletic Conference in Arlington, Texas, handling media relations for multiple sports and supporting championship operations. He also served as associate director of strategic communications at Southern University, overseeing men’s basketball, volleyball, softball, and tennis from August 2021 to September 2022. During that time, he produced a bi-weekly athletics television show.
Howse’s earlier experience includes a stint at Mississippi Valley State as coordinator of athletics communications and public relations from January 2020 to July 2021. His career also features roles with Prairie View A&M University, the University of Houston, and Texas Southern University, where he began his collegiate athletics career as a media relations statistician in 2011. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from Texas Southern in December 2017.
