Mississippi Valley State Falls to Florida A&M Despite Four Double-Digit Scorers
ITTA BENA, Miss. — Mississippi Valley State University women’s basketball team fell to Florida A&M 88-74 on Saturday at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex. The Devilettes had four players reach double figures, including three who did not start.
Despite the loss, Mississippi Valley State (3-13, 2-3 SWAC) showed offensive resilience. Kylah McCullers led the team with a career-high 17 points, along with five rebounds and four assists. Sydnei Marshall added 12 points, half of which came from free throws, while Janiya Jones tied her personal best with six rebounds and dished out three assists. Nairobi Lewis contributed 10 points, five rebounds, and four free throws made, both season-highs. Ariel Jefferson also set a season best with five free throws, and Ja’la Douglas recorded her first multi-block game of the season, rejecting two shots.
The Rattlers (4-11, 3-1 SWAC) were led by their balanced attack. The series history favors Florida A&M, which leads 4-3 since 2010, with the Rattlers winning the most recent matchup in the last season’s SWAC tournament.
