Mississippi Valley State Edges UAPB for First Road Win Since 2025
Pine Bluff, Ark. — Mississippi Valley State University’s men’s basketball team secured a 70-69 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, marking its first away win since February 2025. The Delta Devils survived a late rally from the Golden Lions at H.O. Clemmons Arena, winning their second of three recent games, according to team stats.
The Delta Devils improved to 3-27 overall and 2-14 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. UAPB fell to 12-17 and 9-7 in conference. The win extended Mississippi Valley’s series lead to 36-35 since the 1983-84 season, with the Delta Devils winning the most recent matchup.
Michael James led Mississippi Valley with 18 points, adding four steals and three assists. Xzayvion Childress contributed 10 points and six rebounds, while Daniel Mayfield scored 14 and Patrick Punch added 11 points and five rebounds. X’Zaeion Barnett led the team on the glass with nine rebounds and also dished out four assists, both team highs.
Defensively, Tyrone Iroghama and Mussa Mzein each recorded a blocked shot. The Delta Devils will face Alcorn State on Tuesday night in Lorman at 8 p.m. The team and its fans follow updates on social media through the program’s official accounts.
