Mississippi University for Women Track Sets Four School Records at Belhaven Invitational

The Mississippi University for Women track and field team competed Saturday at the Belhaven Invitational in Jackson, Mississippi. The meet was non-scoring but saw the Owls set four school records and earn two event wins.

Junior Hannah Owens led the women’s team with a victory in the 5,000-meter run. She clocked in at 20:11.94, surpassing her previous school record of 20:29.51 set earlier this season. Owens’ performance also set a MUW record, according to school officials.

In the women’s javelin, Arie’Onna McCallum threw 35.96 meters to win the event. She also finished fifth in both the discus and hammer throw. Other notable women performers included Ariella Jones, who took second in the long jump at 5.25 meters; Hali Sinegal, second in the triple jump at 10.51 meters; and Brooklyn Kelley, third in the shot put at 10.94 meters.

On the men’s side, the Owls also broke two records. Freshman Malachi Morgan jumped 7.06 meters in the long jump, slightly surpassing his previous best of 7.05 meters. Morgan also finished second in the high jump at 2.00 meters, with teammate Tyler Bohannon placing third at 1.90 meters.

James Nesby set the school record in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 30.87 meters, finishing eighth overall. The meet’s performances highlight the Owls’ continued progress in outdoor track and field this season, according to MUW coaches.
