Mississippi State’s Tomas Valincius Named Baseball America National Team of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State pitcher Tomas Valincius has been named to Baseball America’s Week 6 National Team of the Week. The sophomore left-hander from Lockport, Illinois, earned the honor after a standout performance against Vanderbilt on March 22.

In his second SEC start, Valincius struck out a career-high 14 batters over seven innings. He allowed only two hits, one walk, and no earned runs in the victory. The outing improved his season record to 5-0 with a 1.04 earned run average, tying for fourth in the SEC.

Valincius also pitched seven shutout innings in his SEC debut against Arkansas, striking out seven and holding the Razorbacks to two hits. His performance helped him earn SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors two weeks earlier. He has appeared in six games this season, with opposing hitters batting just .174 against him.

He ranks third in the SEC with 34 2/3 innings pitched and seventh with 47 strikeouts. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound left-hander has been a key contributor to Mississippi State’s pitching staff this season.
