Mississippi State’s Rougetet Named SEC Co-Field Athlete of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State thrower Marie Rougetet has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Field Athlete of the Week, the school announced Monday.

Head coach Chris Woods praised Rougetet’s performance, saying, “This is a great way to start the season. We are looking for Marie to continue to do great things throughout the season.”

Rougetet opened her season with a 67.29-meter throw in the hammer at the Alumni Bulldog Relays. Her mark was the winning throw and currently leads the SEC in the event by nearly three meters. It ranks third in NCAA rankings and is the highest among sophomores nationwide. She is also 41st in the world.

Her season opener surpassed last year’s by nearly three meters, marking her best start to a season. Rougetet is scheduled to compete this weekend at the Battle on the Bayou in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
