Mississippi State’s Josh Hubbard to Receive Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State basketball player Josh Hubbard is set to receive the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup on Saturday morning at Humphrey Coliseum, an award recognizing his leadership and community involvement, according to school officials.

Hubbard has been a key figure for the Bulldogs over the past three seasons, both on and off the court. Coach Chris Jans praised Hubbard’s character, saying he still has the “wow” factor after years of dedication to the team and community. Jans noted that Hubbard is more than just a talented player; he is a better person.

Hubbard’s achievements on the court include surpassing 298 career three-pointers, setting the school record with 10 in a game against Auburn, and scoring 46 points in a conference game. He is a two-time All-SEC selection and ranks fifth in school history with 1,846 points.

Beyond his stats, Hubbard is recognized for his leadership and kindness. Freshman teammate Jamarion Davis-Fleming described Hubbard as a mentor who encourages growth. Transfer Sergej Macura called Hubbard a genuine helper from the start of his time at Mississippi State.

Hubbard’s community work includes awarding around $40,000 in scholarships through his basketball camp, The Josh Hubbard Showcase, and distributing gifts to children at Children’s of Mississippi Hospital, where he was treated as a child for Kawasaki disease. He also partners with Make-A-Wish Mississippi and supports local food banks and educational campaigns.

“Growing up, I was always taught to give back,” Hubbard said. “My parents instilled that in us, and I’ve just continued that mindset.”

His efforts have made a lasting impact on fans, teammates, and the community. Jans expressed confidence that Hubbard’s legacy will endure, saying he will be remembered as a special figure at Mississippi State.

“He’ll be on a pretty high pedestal,” Jans added.
