Mississippi State Women’s Tennis Opens Weekend With Two Wins
Mississippi State women’s tennis opened its weekend schedule with two wins on Friday at home in Starkville, Miss. The Bulldogs beat Georgia Southern 5-2 and followed with a 4-0 victory over Alcorn State, according to athletic communications.
In the first match, MSU secured the doubles point early, with victories from Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz and Gianna Oboniye, as well as Chiara Di Genova and Noemie Oliveras. The Bulldogs then won four singles matches to seal the victory against the Eagles.
Later in the day, Mississippi State claimed another doubles point with wins from Oliveras and Carolina Troiano, along with Di Genova and Thessy Ntondele Zinga. Oliveras earned her first singles win of the season, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-0. Mia Robinson closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win, clinching the second victory of the day.
According to coach Chris Hooshyar, MSU is now 21-5 in doubleheaders under his leadership. The Bulldogs remain undefeated against Georgia Southern and Alcorn State this season.
Mississippi State will host Louisiana Tech and Bellarmine in a doubleheader Sunday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre, starting at noon. The team’s next matches will continue their home stand this weekend, according to the schedule.
