Mississippi State Women’s Tennis Loses to No. 14 Texas in Austin
Austin, Texas — Mississippi State women’s tennis lost a 4-1 decision to No. 14 Texas on Saturday afternoon at the Weller Tennis Center. The Bulldogs earned an early lead by taking the doubles point.
Chiara Di Genova and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz opened with a 6-3 win over Texas’s Anastasia Abbagnato and Mathilde Ngijol-Care. Athina Pitta and Gianna Oboniye, playing together for the first time this season, sealed the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over No. 50 Elizabeth Ionescu and Christasha McNeil.
In singles, Texas responded by winning four straight courts, clinching the match. Carmen Herea defeated Gianna Oboniye 6-2, 6-1 at the top spot. The Longhorns also secured wins from Abbagnato, McNeil, Ionescu, and a third singles match to finalize the score.
