Mississippi State Women’s Tennis Hosts Vanderbilt and Missouri in Starkville

STARKVILLE, Miss. — No. 46 Mississippi State women’s tennis is back in Starkville for a pair of Southeastern Conference matches. The Bulldogs will face No. 16 Vanderbilt on March 13 at 3 p.m. and Missouri on March 15 at 11 a.m., both at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

Mississippi State recently concluded a road trip to Texas, where they faced two ranked opponents. The Bulldogs fell to No. 8 Texas A&M, 7-0, on March 5 in College Station. They also lost to No. 14 Texas, 4-1, later that week. The team is currently ranked No. 46 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings.

In doubles play, two MSU pairs are ranked nationally. Gianna Oboniye and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz are No. 18, while Chiara Di Genova and Kempenaers-Pocz sit at No. 71. The latter duo recently helped secure doubles points against Tennessee and Kentucky, defeating Tennessee’s No. 21-ranked pair and Kentucky’s Zoe Hammond and Julia Zhu.

Vanderbilt enters the weekend with momentum after earning wins over No. 1 Georgia and No. 11 South Carolina in Nashville. The Commodores beat Georgia 4-2 and South Carolina 4-1. Mississippi State aims to rebound after a 7-0 loss to Vanderbilt last season. The last Bulldog victory over Vanderbilt was in 2018, with a 4-3 win in Starkville.

Missouri will travel to No. 29 Alabama before facing Mississippi State. The Tigers recently lost to No. 1 Georgia and No. 11 South Carolina. Their last win over the Bulldogs was in 2025, a 4-3 victory in Columbia. Mississippi State’s most recent win over Missouri occurred in 2024, 4-1 in Starkville.
