Mississippi State Women’s Tennis Extends Undefeated Streak with Win at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA — Mississippi State women’s tennis extended its undefeated start to the season Saturday, beating Georgia Tech 4-2. The Bulldogs improved to 8-0, marking their second straight season entering SEC play undefeated, according to school officials.

The team dropped the doubles point for only the second time this season but quickly rebounded. Athina Pitta secured a 6-1, 6-3 win in singles on court six, tying the match. Mia Robinson followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on court five to put Mississippi State in the lead.

Carolina Troiano clinched the match for the Bulldogs after her opponent retired. Georgia Tech responded with a win on court one, but Thessy Ntondele Zinga dominated sets two and three to secure the victory for Mississippi State. Ntondele Zinga and Robinson, both freshmen, are now 7-0 in singles this season, contributing to the team’s 14-0 record among the freshman class.

Mississippi State’s overall record in matches on courts four through seven is now 19-1 for the season. The Bulldogs will open SEC play at home against Alabama at noon on Feb. 22. They will then host Alabama A&M around 3 p.m.
