Mississippi State Women’s Tennis earns first SEC win of 2026 season with 4-1 victory over Kentucky

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State women’s tennis earned its first SEC win of the 2026 season, beating Kentucky 4-1 Saturday. The Bulldogs hadn’t won an SEC match since 2024, when they defeated Missouri.

Mississippi State opened the match by capturing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Athina Pitta and Mia Robinson took court three over Ellie Myers and Marina Fuduric, 6-3, while Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz and Chiara Di Genova won on court one against Julia Zhu and Zoe Hammond, 7-5.

In singles play, Carolina Troiano secured the first point for the Bulldogs, defeating Kentucky’s Asuncion Jadue 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Mia Robinson earned her first career conference singles victory, beating Elena Molla 6-1, 6-2, on court five. Di Genova clinched the match for Mississippi State in three sets, defeating Reese Sager 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

With the win, Mississippi State improves to 2-0 under coach Chris Hooshyar in SEC play and remains undefeated in singles this season with Robinson’s 8-0 record. Troiano also recorded her first conference singles win of the year, and Di Genova earned her first SEC singles win of the season.

The Bulldogs are set to face Memphis at 11 a.m. Monday. The next match will be held in Starkville, with live stats available online.

Match results show Mississippi State’s doubles wins on courts one and three, with singles victories from Troiano, Robinson, and Di Genova. Kentucky’s Julia Zhu was the only player to secure a singles win for the Wildcats.
