Mississippi State Women’s Tennis Downs Missouri 4-0 in SEC Match
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State’s women’s tennis team defeated Missouri 4-0 Sunday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre, earning their second Southeastern Conference victory of the season, according to athletic communications.
The Bulldogs gained early momentum by claiming the doubles point in a straightforward manner. Due to an injury to Missouri, the third doubles court was not played. No. 71 Chiara Di Genova and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz clinched the doubles point by defeating Andrea Artimedi and Korina Roso 6-2.
In singles, only five courts were played. Courts three and one sealed the win for Mississippi State. Di Genova earned her second SEC victory of the season by defeating Lara Quaglia 6-3, 6-1. Gianna Oboniye secured the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Roso.
Oboniye also recorded her first conference singles win of the season. The Bulldogs improved their all-time home record against Missouri to 7-1. Mississippi State will host Oklahoma on March 19 at 3 p.m. in their next match, according to the team’s schedule.
Match results show Mississippi State took the doubles point with victories by Di Genova/Kempenaers-Pocz and Pitta/Oboniye, while the third doubles match was not played. In singles, Oboniye, Di Genova, and Roso were the only players to finish their matches, with Oboniye and Di Genova winning their respective matches.
