Mississippi State women’s tennis defeats Memphis 4-0 in quick match

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State women’s tennis secured its 12th win of the season Monday with a 4-0 victory over Memphis. The match marked the Bulldogs’ fourth in five days.

Mississippi State took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Athina Pitta and Mia Robinson won 6-0 on court three, while Emma Cohen and Thessy Ntondele Zinga posted a 6-2 victory on court two.

The singles matches ended swiftly, with State clinching the win on courts two, three, and four. Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz defeated Alicia Mall 6-0, 6-1, on court two. Carolina Troiano won 6-1, 6-1, on court four, and Ntondele Zinga secured the victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court three.

Mississippi State, which is 1-2 in Southeastern Conference play, improved to 30-3 in non-conference matches under coach Chris Hooshyar. The Bulldogs also extended their non-conference winning streak to 23 matches.

The team’s freshman duo of Robinson and Ntondele Zinga combined for a 17-2 record this season, with Ntondele Zinga leading with nine singles wins. Kempenaers-Pocz remains undefeated in singles on court two at 3-0. Mississippi State will travel to Texas for matches against Texas A&M on Thursday and Texas on Saturday.
