Mississippi State Women’s Tennis Advances to ITA Indoors Quarterfinals with Win Over Florida

Dallas — The Mississippi State men’s tennis team, ranked sixth nationally, opened the 2026 ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 4-1 victory over No. 23 Florida on Friday evening at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.

The Bulldogs secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Mario Martinez and Michal Novansky defeated Florida’s Pablo Perez and Adhithya Ganesan 6-4, while Bryan Hernandez Cortes and Raphael Vaksmann won 6-1 over Kevin Edengren and Tanapatt Nirundorn. The top doubles match was left unfinished with Mississippi State leading 5-4.

In singles play, Mississippi State took three straight-set wins to clinch the match. Martinez Serrano beat Lorenzo Claverie 6-4, 6-4 on court three. Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes defeated Kevin Edengren 6-2, 6-4 on court five. Novansky sealed the victory with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Andreas Timini on court six. Florida’s only point came from Henry Jefferson, who defeated Petar Jovanovic in three sets.

With the win, Mississippi State advances to the quarterfinals, where they will face No. 1 Virginia at 3:30 p.m. Central Time Saturday. Head coach Matt Roberts earned his 219th career win, moving closer to the school record.

Freshman Raphael Vaksmann remains undefeated in dual matches this season, and Novansky achieved his fourth career singles victory. Ferrer Guimaraes improved to 2-0 in singles, both in straight sets.
