Mississippi State Women’s Golf Opens Spring Season at UCF Challenge
Mississippi State women’s golf will start its spring season Sunday at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Florida, according to an announcement from the team. The tournament runs through Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Avery Weed, the Bulldogs’ top-ranked golfer, will lead the team. The junior from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, posted a 69.17 scoring average during the fall and finished in the top four in all her tournaments, including a victory at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational.
Ines Belchior, a freshman from Portugal, will occupy the second spot on the lineup. She became the first Bulldog since 2021 to shoot under par in her collegiate debut after finishing T9 at the Mason Rudolph Championship last fall.
Samantha Whateley will serve as the third player in the lineup. She won her first collegiate tournament at the Mason Rudolph Championship, finishing 9-under par, and shot in the 60s five times during the fall season. Freshman Moa Stridh rounds out the starting five, recording her first round in the 60s at the Mason Rudolph Championship and shooting par or better in three rounds last fall.
Senior Izzy Pellot, a native of Orlando, will close out the lineup. She finished T3 at last year’s UCF-hosted event, her best collegiate finish and tournament score to par, highlighted by a 5-under opening round.
Lynn van der Sluijs will compete as an individual at the event. She played in two fall tournaments and shot her best round at The Ally, finishing 3-under par in the second day.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to tee off at 8:15 a.m. Central Time on hole one. Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com. Fans can follow the team on social media via ‘HailStateWG’ on X, Facebook, and Instagram for updates.
