Mississippi State Women’s Basketball Adds Transfer Guard Cali Smallwood for 2026-27 Season

Mississippi State women’s basketball has added Cali Smallwood to its roster for the 2026-27 season, marking their first transfer portal acquisition for that year, according to an announcement from the university.

The 5-foot-9 guard from Susan Moore, Alabama, spent her last two seasons at UAB. After missing most of her sophomore year due to injury, Smallwood broke out during her junior season. She led the Blazers in scoring with 14.1 points per game and ranked among the national leaders in three-point shooting.

Smallwood made 93 three-pointers at a 41.9% clip and boasted a free-throw percentage of 94.6%. She was one of five players nationwide to shoot 50/40/90 last season, according to the university. She averaged 3.1 triples per game, ranking fourth nationally, and had 17 games with at least three three-pointers made, including eight with five or more.

She scored in double figures in 24 of her 29 games, with five 20-point performances. Her season-high was 29 points in her third game, when she shot 9-for-12 from the field and 6-for-7 from three-point range. On Jan. 31, she made seven three-pointers on 12 attempts against Wichita State, finishing with 25 points.

Smallwood will join her younger sister, Lani, who was named Alabama’s Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year at Albertville High School. The Bulldogs also return their leading scorers from last season, including SEC All-Defensive and All-Freshman team member Madison Francis and Favour Nwaedozi, who averaged a double-double last year. The team will also welcome incoming freshman Andrea Flores, Tennessee’s Miss Basketball.
