Mississippi State Track and Field Wraps Day One at Battle on the Bayou
BATON ROUGE, La. — Mississippi State track and field concluded the first day of competition at the Battle on the Bayou, hosted by LSU. Despite weather delays, the Bulldogs posted strong performances against a field of ranked competitors, according to school officials.
The day started with the women’s hammer throw, where Marie Rougetet launched the implement 67.19 meters to finish third overall. Alla Parnov set a season best with a 4.00-meter pole vault, improving on her previous top mark in program history.
In track events, Anje Nel ran a personal best of 58.36 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing with a win and moving to fourth on Mississippi State’s all-time list. Brooklyn Quanz won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:32.69, just shy of her personal best. Nelly Jemeli clocked 4:17.21 to finish second in the 1,500 meters, marking a new personal best and the fifth-fastest time in school history.
Other Bulldogs, including Gabrielle Boulay, Mallory Streetman and Harry Ross-Hughes, recorded personal bests in the 1,500 meters. Action resumes Saturday morning with the women’s discus and men’s shot put in the field events, along with the 4×100-meter relays on the track, officials said.
