Mississippi State Track and Field Heads to LSU for First Outdoor Road Meet
BATON ROUGE, La. — Mississippi State track and field is set to compete in its first outdoor away meet of the season at the Battle on the Bayou, hosted by LSU. The meet features 17 teams, including seven Southeastern Conference opponents, and marks the Bulldogs’ first time facing most SEC teams this season, excluding Alabama.
Seven of the competing teams are ranked in the top 25 nationally according to the USTFCCCA TFRI, with four ranked for both men’s and women’s programs. Over the weekend, 51 Bulldogs will participate in 33 events, including 10 athletes ranked in the top 30 nationally in individual events and two relays.
The action begins with the hammer throw, where program record holders Marie Rougetet and Juha Narhi are scheduled to compete. Track events start with the 400-meter hurdles and conclude with the 5,000 meters. Naomi Jepleting, a program record holder, is set to compete in the long-distance race.
Mississippi State aims to build on momentum from its season opener, where the team set a new program record, added five entries to the all-time list, and recorded five personal bests.
