Mississippi State Track and Field Completes Battle on the Bayou with Record Book Entries and Personal Bests

BATON ROUGE, La. — Mississippi State track and field wrapped up the second and final day of competition at the Battle on the Bayou, hosted by LSU, despite facing multiple weather delays, according to an official release.

The Bulldogs set two entries in the program record book and achieved seven personal bests on Saturday. Kevin Grubbs threw a lifetime best of 59.78 meters in the discus, marking the second-longest throw in school history. His distance ranks seventh in the NCAA and fourth in the Southeastern Conference.

De’Kayla Simpson posted a significant improvement in her second collegiate outdoor 400-meter race, crossing the finish line in 53.34 seconds, the fifth-fastest mark in program history. Additionally, Ifa Aidsa, Camryn Merryman, and Zaniyah Jones all achieved personal bests in their respective events.

Nicholas Fakorede ran a season-best 10.10 seconds in the 100 meters, the third-fastest time in the NCAA this season. Manie Mevo and Omari Hampton also recorded personal bests in the sprint.
