Mississippi State Sweeps Ole Miss in SEC Series

Ole Miss baseball suffered its first SEC series sweep since 2024 after falling to Mississippi State in three games at Swayze Field. The Bulldogs won the series after claiming Friday’s game 5-4, Saturday’s 6-1, and Sunday’s 7-1 contest, according to the team’s official releases.

In Sunday’s game, Ole Miss pitcher Cade Townsend returned from a two-week injury absence to strike out eight batters, but he gave up three home runs and five runs in the loss. Walker Hooks pitched three scoreless innings of relief, fanning four. Ole Miss’s offense struggled to capitalize with runners on base, loading the bases four times but scoring no runs. The team stranded 14 runners overall, the most in an SEC game this season, the school said.

The Bulldogs opened scoring early with a two-run homer in the first inning. Ole Miss responded with a run in the bottom half when Judd Utermark walked and scored on Collin Reuter’s single. Mississippi State added three runs in the fifth inning, including two homers, to extend its lead to 5-1. The Bulldogs added a solo shot in the ninth for insurance.

Ole Miss will host Little Rock on Tuesday at 11 a.m. for the annual Kid’s Game, which will be streamed on SECN+. The Rebels continue SEC play with upcoming series against Florida and Tennessee, according to the team’s schedule.

Head coach Mike Bianco and players discussed the series in postgame press conferences, which were posted on the team’s media channels.
