Mississippi State Softball Tops UAB Behind Barbary’s Two Home Runs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Nadia Barbary’s two home runs helped No. 12 Mississippi State secure a 6-1 win over UAB on Wednesday night, according to the Bulldogs’ athletic department.

Barbary opened the scoring with a solo shot in the top of the first inning. She added a three-run homer in the fifth to put Mississippi State ahead for good. Abigail Stevens delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double in the sixth for insurance, extending the lead.

Head coach Samantha Ricketts praised Barbary’s consistency and leadership. “Nadia has been such a consistent presence for us, all year and every year,” Ricketts said. “She continues to grow and step up when we need her, setting the tone early and helping us extend the lead late in the game. It gives us a little breathing room.”

In addition to Barbary’s performance, Kiarra Sells extended her hitting streak to nine games with a double. Morgan Stiles and Tatum Silva both singled and scored. On the mound, Leila Ammon pitched six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, and Delainey Everett finished the game with a perfect seventh inning, according to the release.

Mississippi State’s next games will be in Mobile, Alabama, at the Jaguar Classic, where they will face New Mexico, Samford, and South Alabama over the weekend, the team said.
