Mississippi State routs Southern Miss with run-rule victory
Mississippi State’s baseball team secured a 12-0 run-rule victory over Southern Miss on Tuesday night at Dudy Noble Field. The Bulldogs (21-4) scored nine runs in the first three innings and maintained the lead with strong pitching and timely hitting.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the first inning, with Aidan Teel and Ace Reese each getting singles before Noah Sullivan drew a walk. Gehrig Frei singled to drive in two runs, and Ryder Woodson added an RBI, giving MSU a 3-0 lead. Sullivan’s single in the second inning scored Teel, who went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs overall.
MSU broke the game open in the third, with Jacob Parker hitting a three-run homer and Teel adding a two-run shot. The Bulldogs extended their lead in the fourth and fifth innings, with Woodson and Reed Stallman driving in runs, pushing the score to 12-0. The team’s pitching staff combined for a seven-hit shutout, striking out 12 without issuing a walk.
Starter Chris Billingsley Jr. pitched two scoreless innings, and Jack Bauer earned his first collegiate win in relief. Southern Miss threatened at times but was unable to score, leaving eight runners on base. The Golden Eagles used eight pitchers in an effort to contain Mississippi State’s offense.
The Bulldogs, who had eight different players record at least one hit, will travel to Oxford for a three-game series against No. 18 Ole Miss this weekend.
