Mississippi State Hosts Eighth Annual Snowman Softball Tournament
Mississippi State will host the eighth annual Snowman: Alex Wilcox Memorial softball tournament from Feb. 13 to 15 at Nusz Park, the school announced. The event features No. 19 MSU and teams including Murray State, Rutgers, and North Texas.
The tournament, named in honor of Wilcox’s nickname and her retired No. 8 jersey, dates back to 2015 when it was called the February Freezer. Wilcox, who battled ovarian cancer, made her first career hit at the event under its previous name.
MSU has a 41-6 all-time record in the tournament. North Texas returns for the second year, while Murray State will tie with MSU for the most-common opponent in the event’s history, facing the Bulldogs for the fourth time at Snowman.
Game coverage begins Friday at 12:30 p.m. with Murray State vs. Mississippi State on SEC Network+ and Live Stats. MSU continues play Saturday and Sunday, facing Rutgers and North Texas, with similar coverage options. Fans are encouraged to wear teal on Saturday to honor Wilcox’s legacy and raise awareness of ovarian cancer.
Additional highlights include hitting streaks by Morgan Stiles and Nadia Barbary, Taylor Troutman’s comeback home runs, and Des Rivera’s first MSU hits. The Bulldogs are 41-14 at home since 2024, outscoring opponents 393-170.
MSU coach Samantha Ricketts became the fastest Bulldog softball coach to reach 200 wins on Feb. 6. The team has a strong record when scoring at least five runs, going 156-20 under Ricketts.
Upcoming on the schedule, MSU will host Memphis on Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. CT, with coverage on SEC Network. Follow the Bulldogs on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for updates.
