Mississippi State Falls to Texas A&M 4-3 in Men’s Tennis

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The sixth-ranked Mississippi State men’s tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to No. 9 Texas A&M on Friday evening. The match was closely contested, with Texas A&M taking the doubles point early and ultimately securing the win in the final singles match.

Texas A&M claimed the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez of Mississippi State led 6-5 in their doubles match before it was left unfinished. The Aggies then took an early lead in singles after Alex Frusina retired, giving the Aggies a 2-1 advantage.

Mississippi State responded with victories on courts one and three, tying the match at three points apiece. The outcome hinged on the final court, where Texas A&M’s Togan Tokac defeated Raphael Vaksmann, securing the decisive point and handing the Bulldogs their narrow defeat.

Benito Sanchez Martinez secured another ranked singles victory, and Niccolo Baroni extended his winning streak to 10 matches, according to the school. Mississippi State’s record against top-10 opponents now stands at 1-3.

The Bulldogs will travel to No. 7 LSU on Sunday at 12 p.m. Central time for their next match, according to athletic officials.
