Mississippi State Completes Sweep of Hofstra With Doubleheader Wins

Mississippi State finished a weekend sweep of Hofstra with two victories Saturday at Dudy Noble Field, drawing a crowd of 12,667 fans. The Bulldogs (3-0) won the first game 6-1 and rallied for a 7-5 win in the nightcap to extend their early-season momentum, according to school officials.

In the opener, Mississippi State jumped to an early lead with a three-run first inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Ace Reese and a run-scoring single by Bryce Chance. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fifth, thanks to three doubles by Reese, Nunnallee, and Stallman. Reese finished with two doubles and an RBI, while Chance had two hits and an RBI. The Bulldogs totaled eight hits and drew four walks in the game.

Starting pitcher Tomas Valincius earned the win, allowing four hits over 5 1/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Brendan Sweeney closed out the game with 3 2/3 innings, striking out five for his first save. Hofstra’s lone run came on a ninth-inning solo homer by CJ Griggs.

The second game saw Hofstra jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, with Griggs hitting a three-run homer. Mississippi State responded quickly, with Aidan Teel driving in a run in the first and Reese hitting a three-run homer in the second to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead. Hofstra briefly reclaimed the lead at 5-4 in the fifth, but Mississippi State answered with a three-run bottom half. Aiden Teel, Chance, and Chone James each contributed key hits in the rally.

Charlie Foster started for Mississippi State, allowing three runs over three innings. The bullpen stabilized the game, with Jack Gleason earning the win in relief and Maddox Webb securing his first save with a scoreless ninth. Reese led offensively in the nightcap with two hits, including a homer and three RBIs. Overall, the Bulldogs tallied 18 hits across both games and struck out 17 batters, showcasing their depth and power.
