Mississippi State Completes Sweep of Delaware with 7-3 Win
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State extended its winning streak to eight games Sunday, edging Delaware 7-3 at Dudy Noble Field to complete a three-game series sweep. The Bulldogs improved to 8-0 on the season, maintaining their perfect start with a victory before 9,473 fans in brisk conditions.
Mississippi State’s offense was led by Chone James, who went 2-for-4 with a double. The Bulldogs responded after Delaware took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, tying the game in the third and taking control in the fourth. A walk, two singles and an RBI single from Ace Reese, along with a bases-loaded walk, fueled the rally that tied the game at 2.
The Bulldogs took the lead in the fifth inning, capitalizing on four Delaware errors to score two runs and go ahead 4-2. They added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth innings, with Bryce Chance lifting a sacrifice fly and the team stealing two bases to keep pressure on the Blue Hens. Mississippi State scored two more in the eighth to push the lead to 7-2.
On the mound, Charlie Foster struck out five in two innings before Duke Stone (2-0) allowed one hit over four scoreless frames, striking out six to earn the win. The bullpen finished strong, with Tyler Pitzer recording his first save of the season. Delaware scored a late run in the ninth but could not overcome the Bulldogs’ pitching staff. The Blue Hens struck out 15 times and left 11 runners on base in the game.
