Mississippi State beats Ole Miss 6-1 in second game of series

Ole Miss baseball lost to Mississippi State 6-1 Saturday afternoon at Swayze Field, dropping the series to the Bulldogs. The Rebels, now 19-9 overall and 3-5 in Southeastern Conference play, managed six hits but left 11 runners on base, according to the game summary.

Dom Decker led Ole Miss offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Other Rebels each recorded one hit, including Austin Fawley and Judd Utermark, who both hit home runs in Friday’s game. Freshman pitcher Hudson Calhoun took the loss, allowing three earned runs over three innings while striking out four.

Mississippi State opened the scoring with a solo home run in the third inning. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the same inning after the homer and scored three more in the sixth, including two home runs. The Bulldogs finished with nine hits and stranded six baserunners.

Ole Miss scored its only run on a single by Decker that drove in Collin Reuter from second base in the seventh inning. Relief pitcher Owen Hancock kept Mississippi State at bay after entering in the sixth, allowing only two baserunners and striking out five in three innings.

The Rebels will try to avoid the series sweep in the final game Sunday at 3 p.m. CT, which will be broadcast on SECN, according to the university.
