Mississippi State Beats Kentucky 4-1 in Men’s Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Sixth-ranked Mississippi State defeated Kentucky 4-1 Sunday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The Bulldogs overcame an early deficit after Kentucky won the doubles point.
The Wildcats claimed wins on courts one and three in doubles, with the match on court two remaining unfinished. Kentucky took the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court three and a 6-4 victory on court one.
Mississippi State responded strongly in singles, winning all five completed matches. Mario Martinez Serrano opened the scoring with a win over Jaden Weekes on court three. Benito Sanchez Martinez followed with a win on court one against No. 22 Eli Stephenson.
Bryan Hernandez Cortes dropped the first set but rallied to win in three sets, clinching the team victory. Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes secured his first clinch of the season with a three-set win on court six. The remaining matches on courts two and four went unfinished.
With the victory, Mississippi State improves to 18-3 overall and 8-1 in Southeastern Conference play. The Bulldogs have now swept singles in two consecutive matches. They are set to face Arkansas on April 2 in Fayetteville, Ark.
