Mississippi State Athlete Sets Program Record at Bob Pollock Invitational

CLYDE, S.C. — Mississippi State’s track and field team wrapped up competition at the Bob Pollock Invitational, hosted by Clemson, on Saturday. The Bulldogs posted 21 personal bests over the two-day meet, according to head coach Chris Woods.

In the men’s shot put, Roury McCloyen threw 19.56 meters, setting a new personal best and an indoor program record. His mark moved him into the top 10 nationally in the event, Woods said.

On the women’s side, Tafada Wright threw 14.33 meters in the shot put, extending her position to fifth on the program’s all-time list. Sam Navarro won the 800 meters with a personal best of 1:48.36 in his first race of the season. Manie Mevo recorded a personal best of 12.93 meters in the triple jump, the second-farthest in program history.

The day concluded with Nelly Jemeli finishing second in the women’s 3,000 meters in 9:20.12, recording the second-fastest time in program history for the event.

Mississippi State will return to Clemson in two weeks for the Tiger Paw Invitational. Half the team will compete at the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt.
