Mississippi State Alumni Anderson and Hassan Prepare for World Indoor Championships
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State track and field alumni Navasky Anderson and Abdullahi Hassan are scheduled to compete in the men’s 800 meters at the upcoming World Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland.
Anderson, competing for Team Jamaica, has had a standout indoor season. He ranks ninth globally for the event and 16th this season. Earlier this year, Anderson broke the Jamaican indoor national record with a time of 1:44.75 at the same arena hosting the championships. This marks his first appearance at the World Indoor Championships after reaching the 800-meter final at the outdoor championships last fall.
Hassan earned an at-large invitation from World Athletics to compete for Team Canada. He is ranked 40th in the world for this season, with a top time of 1:45.92 set last month in Chicago. Hassan competed in only one race this season.
Both athletes were prolific middle-distance runners during their time at Mississippi State. Anderson was an SEC champion, All-SEC, All-American, and national runner-up in the 800 meters. Hassan achieved similar success, earning SEC and national runner-up honors along with All-SEC and All-American distinctions in his senior year.
