Mississippi College’s Cooksey Named NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week
Clinton, Mississippi — Mississippi College right-hander Cooper Cooksey has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Region Pitcher of the Week. The award follows his performance in the Choctaws’ 14-1 victory over Valdosta State.
Cooksey pitched a complete game, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings. He struck out a career-high 12 batters. His strikeout total ranks among the top single-game performances in the Gulf South Conference this season and was the highest over the weekend, according to sources.
The Waveland, Mississippi, native limited the Blazers to just one extra-base hit and faced little sustained pressure during his outing. Cooksey is the first Mississippi College player to earn NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week honors since Holland Townes on March 18, 2025. The recognition adds to his Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week award.
Cooksey, a 6-foot-3 redshirt senior, is a right-handed pitcher. He joins fellow player Holland Townes, a 6-foot-4 senior, in the team’s notable performances.
