Mississippi College Women’s Tennis Extends Win Streak to 16 with Wins over Montevallo and AUM
The No. 6 Mississippi College women’s tennis team extended its unbeaten streak to 16 matches with wins over Montevallo and Auburn Montgomery this weekend. The Lady Choctaws (16-0, 5-0 Gulf South Conference) opened with a 7-0 victory over Montevallo on Saturday.
Mississippi College secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Katharina Weber and Rune Van Wyk won 6-0, while Rocio Martinez and Anna Hudson finished with a 6-1 victory. In singles, Emily Buchanan led with a straight-set win at No. 1, and Martinez, Weber, Van Wyk, Hudson, and Ann Cabot Stockett also won in straight sets to complete the sweep.
The Lady Choctaws continued their winning streak Sunday with a 5-2 victory over AUM in Montgomery. The team again secured the doubles point, with Weber and Van Wyk winning 6-4 at No. 2 and Martinez and Hudson taking a 6-3 victory at No. 3. The No. 1 doubles match was unfinished with the outcome already decided.
In singles play, Weber won at No. 3 in straight sets, and Van Wyk clinched the match with a three-set win at No. 4. Hudson (No. 5) and Stockett (No. 6) also posted convincing straight-set wins. AUM won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but Mississippi College controlled the rest of the lineup to secure the victory.
The weekend sweep keeps Mississippi College perfect overall and in conference play, highlighting its status as a top team in the region.
